Proof of concept for a data driven approach for prevention of disease

Proof of concept study in HIV to develop a novel Digital Data-Driven approach for Differentiated Prevention (D4P) to facilitate personalized health care and prevention

Data-driven insights are an opportunity to transform healthcare and facilitate personalized health care and prevention. As proof of concept, Amsterdam health & technology, Stichting hiv monitoring, Amsterdam UMC and Stichting Aids fonds will build a tool for a novel data-driven approach for differentiated prevention (D4P) to facilitate HIV prevention and transform the Netherlands into a leading country in HIV elimination.

Using HIV as example, D4P will reduce the impact of HIV on health, improve quality of life, and reduce ongoing HIV-transmission. D4P aims to support the ambition of the Netherlands to zero new HIV infections in 2027 in the Netherlands. The social and economic impact is tremendous. Prevention of HIV will have a positive impact on individuals, as HIV negatively affects health, health disparities and quality of life. Average medical costs of lifelong HIV-treatment in the Netherlands are around €500.000, with e.g. 427 newly diagnosed HIV individuals in the Netherlands in 2021.

We will combine clinical data of people  with HIV with demographic, socioeconomic and health data to improve our understanding of HIV spread and care in the Netherlands. D4P builds upon an existing data-infrastructure, consisting of CBS microdata enriched with a subset of HIV-specific clinical data collected by Stichting hiv monitoring. Such a data-infrastructure facilitates actionable insights to target prevention to reach (sub)populations with (undiagnosed) HIV.

D4P

Summary
Refining use of data can provide targeted insights and actionable outcomes for healthcare providers and policy makers. As proof of concept, we will build a tool for a novel data-driven approach for differentiated prevention (D4P) to facilitate HIV prevention and transform the Netherlands into a leading country in HIV elimination.
