Watch the Mobile Healthcare Innovation Café on mission-driven innovation policy
Our society is facing major societal challenges in the field of energy, transition & sustainability; agriculture, water & food; health & care; and security. By jointly determining missions within these themes, we can actively address and consciously work towards concrete sustainable solutions for the future. To highlight the crucial changes needed for the societal challenge health and care, Mobile Healthcare hosted an Innovation Café on this topic.
Presenting the Netherlands as the perfect location for biopharmaceutical innovation during the BIO International Convention
At the start of June, 17,300 delegates attended the BIO International Convention in Philadelphia. Branded with the theme “It starts with one”, BIO highlighted the game-changing impact of the small, daily efforts of biotech entrepreneurs. One of the exhibition floor highlights was the Health~Holland Pavilion, a not-to-miss orange landmark in a sea of country pavilions. Together with a delegation of 120 Dutch biotech entrepreneurs, we look back on a successful edition where we spread the word on the Dutch Life Sciences industry.
Seven projects on Organ-on-Chip technology awarded
Seven projects in the Organ-on-Chip Showcases call have been awarded a grant by Top Sector Life Sciences & Health (LSH). The Top Sector is thus stimulating early phase Organ-on-Chip technology development with 2.76 million euros in Public-Private Partnership Allowance. A substantial investment that brings together knowledge institutions and companies from the Netherlands and abroad together in joint projects.
Digitalising healthcare and human capital - invest in lifelong learning
Professions will change or even disappear due to the digitalisation of the labour market. However, most employees will find it relatively easy to adapt, with a substantial number even increasing their income and strengthening their position. There will be new jobs and roles for those who are willing to develop new skills and broaden their knowledge.

Rick Brink elected as Minister of Disability Issues
Since Monday 17 June, the Netherlands has, for the first time in its history, a Minister of Disability Issues. Rick Brink won this appointment during the broadcast of the television programme ‘De minister van Gehandicaptenzaken’ (The Minister of Disability Issues) on NPO1. Brink was elected by a jury, including former cyclist Leontien van Moorsel, cabaret artist Vincent Bijlo and former Minister Ronald Plasterk, from six candidates.

The winner of the Venture Challenge Spring 2019 is AmbAgon
During the Dutch Biotech Event where biotech companies of all sizes, from start-ups to scale-ups, meet and get inspired, the LifeSciences@Work Venture Challenge is announced. This year’s winner of the Spring edition became AmbAgon. The Eindhoven-based start-up develops small-molecule therapeutics for breast cancer by augmenting the tumour-suppressing functions of the 14-3-3 protein.
Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 funding opportunities
The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) has now launched its 18th and 19th Calls for proposals under IMI2. The Call gives researchers from diverse sectors the opportunity to participate in ambitious public-private partnerships that will pave the way for the development of the medicines of the future.
Eurostars project is awarded to Dutch biotech company VitroScan
A total grant sum of EUR €3.47 million, of which total subsidy ~ €1.82 million has been awarded to a multidisciplinary project, named ‘3D SELECT’. The European consortium consist of six collaborating partners: VitroScan (lead), Anapath, FHNW, Uppsala University, Oncodia, and Robovision.
