Indeed, it ranks first on the list of 35 countries in the 2017 Euro Health Consumer Index (the industry standard) for providing the best healthcare services. Since 2005, the Netherlands is the only country to consistently maintain a top-three ranking. The country also ranks number one on the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Access to Healthcare Index, which measures countries worldwide on accessibility of healthcare and the overall healthcare system. Not only is healthcare in the Netherlands highly ranked and accessible, but also affordable. Health spending grew by an annual average of only 1% from 2009-2016, according to the OECD.
